Remember You Are a Person, Too

One of the ways to be a happier mom is to realize that a mom is not all that you are. Remember that you are a person, too. You have your own likes, dislikes, hobbies and achievements in your life. Don’t let yourself be solely defined by being a mother. That is only part of who you are.

2

Do Something for Fun

A lot of times fun is the first thing to fly out the window when you are a mom. You may not have a lot of options for childcare. Your budget is probably very different from before the baby. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make an opportunity for fun. Get together with your girlfriends once a month or go out and do something on your own.

3

Establish a Circle of Support

The truth is that there are times when you need help as a mom. Even if you are a stay-at-home mom that is with your baby all the time, you need a support system. It is good to have someone that will help you out if you have a doctor’s appointment, need to attend a function or event. It is also good to have someone that you can turn to for advice. Many times this is the grandma but it can be someone else, too.

4

Make Some Mom Friends

Mom friends are so very important to have when you become a mom. They get you in a way no one else can. They are at the same place where you are in life. It is wonderful to have someone to talk to who truly understands. They can also offer some helpful suggestions to things you are going through.

5

Don’t Try to Be Supermom

Want to know a secret? There is no perfect mom. It is admirable that you want to be the best mom you can be. All mothers should strive toward that goal. But realize that you won’t be perfect and be okay with that. A better goal is to do your very best instead of achieving perfection at parenting and forgive yourself when you make mistakes.

Exercise

Exercise does more than shrink your waistline and give you better health. It also is part of the recipe for a healthy life. This is true for everyone, not just moms. But moms tend to neglect exercising because it is difficult to do with children. It is worth the effort, though. Exercise helps your body release endorphins, which are chemicals in your brain that give you an overall feeling of happiness and well-being.

7

Live in the Moment

Lastly, you will be a happier mom when you live in the moment. It is so hard to do in the busyness of day-to-day life. That is absolutely the truth. But another truth is that children grow up so fast and you can’t recapture those moments. Take time to treasure them as they happen.

Great article.. Thanks a lot for this.. Sometimes I feel that I am not doing a great job as being a stay-at-home mom.. For my own happiness, aside from being a mom, is makeup. :) I am glad my husband supports me for what makes me happy. :)
