Get out of the House

Just because you’ve decided to be a stay at home mom doesn’t mean you have to stay home all the time. Make it a point to get out of the house, even if it’s just for an hour a day. A short trip to a drive-through or a walk around the park can do a lot to lift your spirits. Yes, it’s a lot of hassle to get out the door with a baby in tow but it’s worth it. You’ll feel so much better once you get out among other adults.

Get Involved

One way to beat isolation as a stay at home mom is to be proactive against it. Get yourself involved with other moms. Join a playgroup or go to story hour at your local library. This can open up a lot of doors to friendship for both you and your little one(s). Motherhood is a journey that you need friends to be on with you. It’s wonderful to have other mom friends you can talk to and count on.

Get Online

There are a lot of ways to find support online when you’re a stay at home mom. There are lots of helpful hints and tips about being a stay at home mom. There are also forums where you can talk to other moms. If you live in a really remote area where meeting other moms isn’t easy to do, then this may be a good option for you. Many people have made great friends this way.

Keep up Your Friendships

You don’t want to forget your pre-baby friendships, either. Your life does change a lot after you have a baby. But don’t forget that you’re still your own person in addition to being a mom. Make time to go out with your friends occasionally. It’s the perfect chance for Daddy to get in some bonding time with baby.

Do Something Just for You

You give so much of yourself to your children. I know this well; I’ve been in the trenches that you’re in. But it’s still important to nurture yourself with whatever makes you feel happy and fulfilled. It could be a yoga class, pottery painting, going dancing or many other options. It’s not what you do; it’s the fact that you make time to give yourself what you need. You’ll return a happier mom which is good for everyone.

Have a Routine

I always found that having a routine helped my days go smoother. It can be depressing if you just watch the day pass by. Have a routine in place to help both you and your baby stay on schedule. It doesn’t have to be a strict schedule. Just having something to keep your day on track is helpful.

Make Use of Technology

Technology is a great thing. It helps people stay connected in ways they never dreamed possible before. Skype, texting, email, Snapchat, FaceTime and many other options can let you connect with others. So what if Grandma is hundreds of miles away? She can feel right next door with all the technology you have at your fingertips. All of these options help you to feel less isolated.

Being a stay at home mom is very rewarding but it can be isolating at times. These are some ways to deal with that. How do you deal with isolation as a stay at home mom?
