Are your kids going back to school? If so, chances are you feel a little bit of sadness about it, especially if it is your child's first year at school (pre-k and kindergarten can be even harder for parents than they can be for kids). However, your kids going back to school can certainly be something to look forward to with a lot of excitement. Here are some very good reasons to relish the school bus coming down the road and picking up your kids.
1. Peace and Quiet
One of the best and most exciting reasons to look forward to the kids going back to school is the peace and quiet. Let's be honest: while you certainly love spending time with your little ones, they can be quite loud and messy. Enjoy the hours that your kids are in school for the peace and quiet that will come your way. This alone is reason enough to look forward to the school year.
2. Working with Ease
If you work from home, like me, the kids going back to school means that you'll get a chance to get your work done without distractions. My son just started his first year of preschool, and while it's only part-time, and I am certainly sad that he has grown up so quick, I do get a lot more accomplished while he's at school.
3. Chores = Check
Trying to do the laundry, vacuum the rugs, dust and do all of those other household chores can certainly be taxing when your kids are home. You may constantly hear "Mom, what are you doing?" or your kids may mess up what you just cleaned. While they're at school, you can get your chores done with ease, and actually enjoy the cleanliness - at least until they get home.
4. Shopping Alone
Tired of hearing "Mom, can I get that?" or trying to keep your little ones entertained while you shop for a new blouse for yourself? Now that your kids are back to school, you can get your shopping done in peace. You'll actually be able to take your time, browse and, dare I say it? - Try on clothes!
You deserve a little break now and again. Being a mom is a tough job. When your kids are back at school, you can put your feet up and read a book or watch the shows you want to watch, or even take a bath! Soak up that relaxation and enjoy every single moment of it.
6. Time with Friends
Are you a stay-at-home mom? Do you have other stay-at-home mom friends? If so, now is your chance to get together with them without having to worry about food being thrown and arguments about toys. Go ahead, enjoy some lunch together.
7. A Routine
Kids need to have a routine, and one of the trickiest things about summer vacation is that the routine is kind of out-of-whack. When school is back in session, that routine can get back in place. Your kids will get back to their regular bed time (and actually be tired when that time rolls around), they'll be up at the same time each day and they'll just be on a regular schedule, which means you'll have a little bit of sanity again.
Going back to school is bitter-sweet. These are certainly some of the sweet parts of it. What are you looking forward to the most about this time of the year?
