1. Try Burping Again

Sometimes just burping your baby again can help. A lot of times a baby’s stomach ache is due to trapped air. Even if you burp them after their feeding, there can still be trapped air left. That extra burp may be all that they need to feel better. It is a good first step to ease their stomach ache.

2. Try Gently Bouncing

Sometimes rocking just doesn’t cut it when you are trying to soothe your baby’s stomach ache. Many times bouncing will work better. I used to sit on the edge of my bed and gently bounce up and down with my baby held up against me. This usually worked wonders. The different movement seemed to soothe my babies when they were tiny.

3. Switch Bottle Brands

Sometimes your baby’s brand of bottle can be to blame. Some bottles are worse than others to give a stomach ache. Do some research and see which are the best choices for your baby. Playtex has long been a favorite of moms and pediatricians because it is easier to cut down on the amount of air that your baby swallows. I had a lot of success with this brand with my babies.

4. Call in Reinforcements

If your baby suffers from stomach aches a lot, you need to call in reinforcements. What I mean is that you need to call grandma, Aunt Suzy, put dad on duty regularly if he isn’t already or do whatever you have to do to get a break. Dealing with a baby that cries frequently is really hard on moms. You need to get a break so that you can be the best mom that you can be. Getting away for a little bit will help you to come back fresh and better prepared to deal with ongoing stomach aches in your baby.

5. Try Gas Drops

Gas drops are such a wonderful little medication to help baby’s tummies to feel better. There are a lot of different brands out there you can try. They can really help your baby to feel better quickly. You should never use any kind of medication without talking it over with your pediatrician. Also, be careful to only use the amount recommended.

6. Hold Baby against You

I found that holding my babies up against me when they had a stomach ache could really help them. I held them up, facing me, their tummy to my chest. It seemed as if that very slight pressure helped them to feel a little bit better. Every parent will just have to experiment and see what works best with their baby. Babies tend to have favorite positions but this one seems to help with stomach aches pretty well.

7. Talk to the Pediatrician about Switching Formulas

If your baby is not getting any relief from a stomach ache or if they are persistent, it is time to talk to your pediatrician. Ask them if switching formulas would be helpful for your baby. Even if they feel it isn’t a good choice, there are other suggestions, medications or options they can use to help your baby. That is your pediatrician’s job. You should never feel badly about asking them for their assistance. They may know the very thing that makes your baby’s stomach aches a thing of the past.

It is awful for both mom and baby when your baby has a stomach ache. What did you do to soothe your baby’s stomach aches? Your experience may very well help other moms and babies.
