7 Whimsical Ways to Create a Dr. Seuss Baby Shower ...

If someone you know is having a baby, how about celebrating the event with a whimsical Dr. Seuss baby shower? In the spring, my sister was expecting her first baby (whom she just recently had) and I wanted to throw her a super awesome shower. Since she chose Dr. Seuss as the theme for the nursery, I thought it was fitting as the theme for the shower. Well, turns out it was so easy and so much fun to plan a Dr. Seuss baby shower! Here are some of the elements that I incorporated to pull the theme together.

1. Truffula Trees

Truffula Trees The first thing that I thought to include in the Dr. Seuss baby shower was truffula trees. These are the trees in The Lorax that were cut down to make Sneeds. Anyway, to make the trees, I just inserted lollipops and brightly colored feathers into foam balls. I then inserted a wooden dowel into the foam balls as tree trunks and covered them with decorative ribbon. To support the trees, I put some floral foam into a flower pot and inserted the opposite end of the dowel into the foam. Voila! A whimsical decoration that guests could also benefit from.

2. Candy Table

Candy Table What's more suitable as a favor for a Dr. Seuss baby shower than candy? Well, we went all out and put together a Dr. Seuss-themed candy table. We offered red and blue gummy fish for "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish," we put out chocolate bear crackers as the brown bar-ba-loots from "The Lorax" and of course, we put out the lollipop-filled truffula trees.

3. Rainbow Window

Rainbow Window The cover of the book, "Oh, the Places You'll Go" features a colorful rainbow, so I decided to make a colorful rainbow display. I just hung crepe paper streamers from a window valance in the colors of the rainbow and we had a colorful backdrop for pictures.

4. Hot Air Balloon Wishing Well

Hot Air Balloon Wishing Well Using "Oh, the Places You'll Go" as inspiration again, I made a hot air balloon wishing well (there's a hot air balloon on the cover). To do this, I cut a piece of gauzy fabric into a large square and strung a piece of ribbon through each of the corners. I tied the opposite end of the ribbon to a hamper and then placed helium balloons inside the fabric, making the look of a hot air balloon.

5. Food

Food We also served up tons of Dr. Seuss-themed food. Of course, we had green eggs and ham (deviled eggs dyed green alongside rolled up deli ham), roast beast and Sneetchy sandwiches. Just use the different books as inspiration and you can easily come up with a Seuss menu.

6. Accessories

Accessories The mom-to-be has to be decked out for the occasion with accessories. For a Seuss shower, what is more fitting than a Cat in the Hat hat?

7. Books

Books No Dr. Seuss shower would be complete without books - and books we had! We asked guests to bring a Dr. Seuss book instead of a card. They signed their names in the books they brought so that my sister and her baby would always know who gave the book. When guests arrived, we set out the books as additional decorations, and, needless to say, my sister got a complete library of Dr. Seuss books.

This shower turned out to be so cute and whimsical! I am still impressed with the results. Do you have any Dr. Seuss ideas you'd like to share?
