Rainy days can often be boring and depressing for many families. It prevents you from going outside and leaves you feeling depressed. However, there are many activities you can do that will prevent you from suffering from cabin fever. Here are a few ideas for activities you can do with the whole family on a day of poor weather.

1. Go to a Museum
If you don't want to stay at home all day, try visiting a local museum. No matter what type of museum it is - art, science, or history, you'll find activities geared towards children as well as adults. Many museums also have hands-on exhibits, which allow children to engage in physical activities. It'll keep them busy and keep you mentally stimulated as well.
2. Board Games
No matter what type of person you are, there's bound to be a board game that appeals to you. Depending on the age of your children, you can also buy some games using the recommended age on the box. Try playing word games such as Scrabble or Scattegories, or have some fun playing simpler games such as Life, Sorry, or Mousetrap. It's a guarantee that everyone will have a great time.
3. Bake or Cook
Another fun activity to do is to bake a dessert or prepare a meal with the family. It teaches kids essential skills they need for later in life, and it gives you the opportunity to bond with your family. If it's raining all day, you can even make more than one meal. However, if it rains so much that flooding is a concern, you may want to check out home owners insurance to make sure that your family and home are taken care of in case disaster strikes.
Regardless of your age, there's nothing more awesome than building an indoor fort. Just find some old blankets and use the cushions from the couch and you'll have hours of fun. It gives your children a chance to be creative by designing the fort and will keep them entertained, without fighting or arguing with each other.

5. Arts and Crafts
Another wholesome activity you can do with the children that will stimulate their creativity and keep them occupied is arts and crafts. From building things with match sticks or popsicle sticks to making pictures out of crayons and construction paper, there is certainly an arts and crafts activity to pull the inner artist out of the whole family.

6. Watch Movies
While it isn't nearly as much of a bonding experience as some of these other ideas, watching a movie with your family keeps everyone entertained. Have the family agree upon a single film to watch. Alternatively, you could show your children your favorite movie from when you were a kid.

7. Indoor Scavenger Hunt
This is fun if you have a larger house where your kids can wander around for a while. Have them create little paper bags to carry around and give them a list of 10 things to find somewhere inside the house. It will be like an Easter egg hunt you can play all year long. Whoever wins the scavenger hunt can receive a prize of some sort as well. This game is easy to include a bunch of children if their friends are over playing too.
There are hundreds of ideas you can come up with for a rainy day, and the more you can keep the kids occupied, the better your day will to be. Even though it's not nearly as awesome as a beautiful, sunny day, a rainy day gives you the opportunity to spend time with those most precious to you -- even if means being cooped up in the house all day.
