When the kids are grown and have finally moved out, you may experience a little empty nest syndrome at first, however soon after you’ll look to discover what new life opportunities there are to experience. You have always put the kids first, and pushed aside the things you’ve always wanted to do. So, now is your time, your chance to go out there and grab these new life opportunities that have been waiting for you.
1. Get out of Debt
The very first thing that you should do with your new life opportunities after the kids move out, is GET OUT OF DEBT! Before you make a list of adventures to take, and where to spend all your time and money, pay your loans off. Now that you don’t have new school supplies and clothes to buy every year and a mile long grocery list to shop for, you can start saving money to finally get out of debt.
2. Take a Class
Is there something you have always wanted to learn, but didn’t really have the money or time to do while raising your little ones? Use this new life opportunity to take that photography class you’ve always wanted to participate in or go back to school to get your degree. You are never too old to learn something new or enjoy a newfound passion.
3. Start a New Business
Sometimes we stay in the same job because of the security it provides for our family, but now that the kids are grown you have the opportunity to start something new. Starting a new business is also a great way for stay at home moms to get out there and start over now that they have more time to be creative and connect with the right people.
Most parents don’t get the opportunity to travel by themselves and usually go to family friendly vacation locations that aren’t too expensive. But, now that the kids are grown and out of the house, you can spoil yourselves and take that trip to Italy that you’ve been dreaming of. You can go to that fancy restaurant that was featured on TV, and spend all day at the beach doing absolutely nothing because you don’t have kids saying, “I’m bored, what are we doing next?” Live it up, go all out, and see the world!
Not only is moving a great opportunity that many parents have been waiting for, but it's the chance to downsize as well. Now that you don’t have the need for three bedrooms and three baths, you can buy or rent a smaller place and use the extra money for other things you’ve been wanting to do.
6. Rekindle Your Flame
This is the perfect time to rekindle the flame in your marriage now that your kids are out of the house and it’s just the two of you. Life can get pretty stressful raising kids and taking care of the never ending bills. But, now that you have downsized, and have gotten out of debt (see numbers 1 and 5!), it’s time for you to celebrate your love and get back that honeymoon feeling. Go on more date nights, run around the house after each other, and light that fire that has been waiting to be rekindled!
7. Join a Group
Whether it’s a bowling league, a poker night, or a gardening group, there are many opportunities in your community for your to enjoy after the kids are grown and have moved out. These are especially beneficial to join if you have just moved into a new town and are looking for a way to meet new people.
