There are many benefits of babywearing, and I’d love to share a few of those with you today. If you have been considering whether or not you would like to try babywearing, please keep reading because I’ve got some neat facts for you to learn! Maybe you have never even heard of babywearing. If that’s the case, then please keep reading as well! Babywearing is when a mother carries her baby in a sling or a wrap close to her body. Below are some amazing benefits of babywearing for your consideration!
1. Baby Feels Secure
One of the biggest benefits of babywearing is that your baby will feel secure knowing that you are right there to soothe and comfort him. Babies like to be close to mom. After all, they have been right there with you for 9 months so it makes sense that feeling close to you will help booster their security. Baby wraps that keep your baby right on your chest are great for putting your little one to sleep!
2. Closer Bonding for Mom and Baby
Babywearing is one of the top ways to bond with your baby! That closeness fosters security, as mentioned above, and one of the results of that security is a closer relationship with your baby. Being able to have your baby close and breathe in their scent may help keep postpartum baby blues at bay! And keeping your baby close will also help bring in your milk and keep your supply up if you choose to breastfeed!
3. Mom Has Her Hands Free
While taking care of your baby is number one priority, there are moments, and yes even days when things are busy and you need your hands free to accomplish things. Babywearing is perfect for those days! Baby is happy and content while you are free to run errands, do your laundry, or respond to emails!
4. Discreet Nursing in Public
I’m not one to feel super comfortable nursing in public, although many mothers are. If you are a bit more on the shy side, then try nursing in a baby wrap! Many people don’t even know what you are doing, and you have the added privacy of the baby wrap. Just be patient, it does take practice to get the hang of nursing while babywearing! Also, please follow safety guidelines for the particular baby carrier you choose to use.
5. Baby Feels Involved
Especially as your baby gets older, he or she will want to feel involved in the family! Instead of leaving your little one in a swing or a baby bed, you can have them right in the thick of things with everyone else if you are babywearing. So whether you are cooking dinner or having a family walk, baby can feel involved!
6. Baby Fusses Less
Having your baby right there with you is a source of comfort to your little one, so they feel less need to fuss. No more loneliness or feelings of abandonment for your sweet baby! He can feel secure knowing mom is there and he has no need to fuss or fret.
7. Mom Can Feel Confident
When your baby is right there with you, there’s no need for you to worry and wonder if she is okay or if she needs anything. You can carry her from room to room in your house with you, or if you’re running errands you will know as soon as your little one is ready to eat or needs a diaper change. When you feel confident, you will be less stressed and much more relaxed!
I love babywearing and these are just a handful of the reasons why. Having my baby close to me is healthy for us both emotionally and physically. A word of caution: Take extra care in choosing the style of baby carrier you use. Many studies have linked hip dysplasia in small babies and children to the wrong position or type of baby carrier.
