1. You Have No Curfew
One of the first signs you have amazing parents is that they don’t limit your curfew. Although parents who expect you to be home at a specific time show that they really care about your safety, parents who don’t, demonstrate that they trust you. They understand that you have a good head on your shoulders and won’t take advantage of the luxury that they give you.
2. They Trust Your Judgment
When your parents let you choose your own friends and don’t limit your contact with people, they give you a certain sense of respect and show that they trust your judgment. Of course you can expect them to jump in at any moment and guide you through a situation, but most of the time they let you learn from your own mistakes.
3. They Bother You with Questions
Now sometimes parents can inundate you with questions to the point when it begins to bother you, but it is all because they care about what is going on in your life. They want to know what friends you have, what interests you the most and how you have spent your day. Wait until you are a parent yourself and you will find yourself in their shoes, bothering your kid with questions!
4. You Know You Can Rely on Them
If your parents are the first people you go to whenever you are in trouble that means that you have a great support system behind you. If you can be honest with them about your actions and ask them for a helping hand, that means that you have a great relationship. You can trust them to be there for you, the second you call them.
5. They Take Care of You
One of my favorite things about my parents is that no matter what age I am, they always care for me when I am sick. My dad asks me about my state of health and my mom brings delicious food in my room. It makes being sick almost fun! However let’s admit it our parents love taking care of us as much as we love them for doing it.
6. They Push You to Be Better
Sometimes tough love is all you need from your parents. While strangers will never tell you what you are doing wrong, your parents will always be there to correct you and improve you as a person. They will push you for the better and guide you to become the best version of yourself that you can be. They will not choose to stand by while you choose the wrong path and destroy yourself in the process.
7. They Make Time for You
As busy as parents may be, they should still be able to make time for their children. If it means getting the whole family together for dinner everyday or having some quality time at least once a week, one on one time is crucial to maintain good relations with parents. Parents, who are considerate and loving, are all we need in life.
I think we often underestimate how great a parent our dads and moms are. Although they punish and scream at us from time to time, they do it all out of love and that may be hard to see at the moment. What kind of parent are you planning to be to your kids?
