1. You Want to Watch Them Grow up
One of the top reasons to become a stay at home mom is because you want to watch them grow up. I couldn’t bear to miss any more than I had to of my children’s childhoods. They really do grow so fast and you can’t go back and recapture those precious moments. This is a huge reason why many moms decide to stay home with their children. It is also a very valid reason.
2. You Aren’t Really Making That Much
You know, for a lot of moms, by the time they figure what they are paying for childcare, lunches out, work clothing and the wear and tear on their car, they aren’t making that much. If that is the situation you find yourself in, it can tip the scales in favor of becoming a stay at home mom. I don’t know about you, but if I am going to work, I want to make some income on it. Otherwise, what is the point? This is certainly not the case for every mom but it is for many of them.
Frequently asked questions
3. Your Heart is at Home
My heart has always been at home. I have worked and gone back to school in the time I have been a mother but if I am honest, I will say that my heart has always been at home. That is where I want to be, with my children with me. This is not possible for all mothers, nor does it mean it is right for everyone. But if you are like me and your heart is at home, that may be where you should be. This is a very personal decision only you can make.
4. You Don’t Have Childcare You Feel Good about
This is another reason that I have mostly been a stay at home mom. I have never really had a good option for childcare. Many of you have family members willing to help you out or childcare you feel confident about and that is great. That makes it much easier to be a working mom, if that is what's best for your family. However, when you are in a situation where you do not have childcare that you feel good about, it is very difficult. This is a good reason to be a stay at home mom.
5. It is Just Too Much
You know, being a working mom is hard. There is absolutely no doubt about it. And honestly, a lot of times, it is just too much. If you are feeling overwhelmed at trying to keep up with your job, your home, your marriage and family, then maybe being a stay at home mom is the right answer for you. Being a working mom has its advantages but one of the disadvantages is that you are often overwhelmed.

6. You Can’t Bear to Leave Them
This is yet another reason I have mostly been a stay at home mom. I always wanted to be with my children. I hated to leave them. Usually leaving them long enough to go on a date with my husband is long enough for me. If you are unhappy leaving your children while you go to work, it may be a good reason to consider being a stay at home mom. This is a big point to consider.
7. You Know It is Right for Your Family
Sometimes, you just know down in your heart what is really right for your family. It may be that the right thing for your family is for you to be a stay at home mom. If you are discontent at your job and find yourself feeling really sad about working, you may be more content as a stay at home mom. This is a question only you can answer. It will vary for everyone.
It is not always easy to make a decision about whether to be a stay at home mom or a working mom. This is such an individual decision and I personally believe both choices are acceptable. What are some reasons you made your decision to be a stay at home mom or a working mom?
