No parent wants to hear their children tell them they are bored, which is why it is always nice to be able to find ways for kids to make money when they can’t think of anything else to do. Having kids earn extra money this summer is a great way to keep them from getting antsy. Younger children don’t need to have big jobs, but a little job that helps them earn a little extra spending money will make them feel good. It will also help teach them responsibility and give them confidence. Next time your kids say they are bored, offer up some of these ways for kids to make money to give them something productive to do.
1. Yard Work
One of the ways for kids to make money is to do yard work. The great thing about yard work is kids of all ages can do it. Young children can water and deadhead flowers. Older children can prune bushes, weed, and even mow. Working in the yard is a wonderful way for kids to earn money because it gets them outside doing physical activity.
2. Wash Cars
If you live in a smaller neighborhood where you know most of your neighbors, you can suggest your kids wash the neighbors’ cars for a little extra money. I grew up in a small town, and I can remember going around the neighborhood with my best friend offering to wash cars. We actually made a fair amount of money and had fun doing it. What kid doesn’t like getting wet in the summer?
3. Dog Walker
Walking dogs for neighbors who work is a great way for kids to make extra money when they are on summer break. Not only do they get some exercise, but they also have to be responsible for someone else’s pet. Additionally, it is a fun job because they can also play with the dogs.
4. Pet Sitter
Another job involving pets that kids can do is pet sitting. Being a pet sitter is another job that teaches responsibility because kids have to care for the animals. Aside from teaching responsibility, pet sitting is also great because it lets kids who don’t have pets spend some time with animals.
5. Washing Windows
Washing outside windows is a job that no one wants to do. As a result, people are often willing to hire older kids to wash their windows. While it isn’t the most fun job, your kids can earn money doing it. Washing windows is a job that is best for two or more people because it generally requires a ladder.
6. Extra Chores
Sometimes earning money can be as simple as doing extra chores around the house. Does your basement need to be cleaned out, but you don’t have time to do it? Having your kids clean out the basement for a little extra money is a great way to keep them from getting bored. They can also do other chores that don’t often get done, such as washing out the refrigerator or cleaning cupboards.
7. Lemonade Stand
When discussing ways for kids to earn extra money in the summer, I can’t leave off having a lemonade stand. Selling lemonade is a classic way for kids to have fun and earn a little money. While they don’t typically make a lot of money, it does give them something to do. Depending on their age, you might need to help them make the lemonade, but once they are outside they will have a fun time.
If your kids are complaining of boredom this summer, suggesting ways for them to make money is a good way to keep them busy. Doing a few of these jobs will give your kids some extra spending money, and they just might have some fun. What did you do in the summer to earn money when you were younger?
