1

Realize Your Limitations

One of the firs things you need to do when you're a single mom is to realize your limitations. As much as you want to, you just can’t be supermom - no one can! It's absolutely okay to seek out help you when you're faced with something outside of your comfort zone or area of expertise. Ask your sister, brother, mom, dad or even a close friend for help. Realizing when you need help is one of the most valuable pieces of advice for single moms.

2

Reach out for Support

It's also okay to reach out when you feel you need support for yourself. There's no reason to go this alone! Find a support group for single moms to hold your hand, offer encouragement, and celebrate successes along the way. If there isn’t one near you, there are many online. Find one that fits your personality and let it encourage you.

3

Accept Help

I get it, I do. It's hard to ask for help, but sometimes, it's even harder to accept it when someone offers. But do it! If someone wants to help, let them, whether it's babysitting so you can have precious "me" time, or doing an after-school pickup because you have to work late.

4

Be Kind to Yourself

Being a single mom is not for the feint of heart. You have a lot on your plate and on your shoulders. So treat yourself with kindness. Give yourself some credit and realize you aren’t doing half-bad. Treating yourself kindly is a way to be a good role model for your children - seeing you be okay with falling short once in a while is a great way for them to learn they can make mistakes, too.

5

Don’t Introduce Every Date

If you're young and single, you're probably going to want to date, whether you are a mom or not. That's perfectly normal. You're allowed to have romantic relationships in your life. Just handle them carefully when it comes to your child. Don’t introduce every date to them; wait until you know it's going to be at least semi-serious before you take that step.

Make Single Mom Friends

It's a great idea to make friends with other single moms because they'll understand your struggles and challenges like no one else. They're been there too! Make a support network of single moms, and be there for each other. It can make a huge difference!

7

Believe in Yourself

This is probably the most important piece of advice for single moms: believe in yourself. Yes, it is very difficult to face parenting a child alone. But it can be done! There are many single moms out there who are doing an amazing job and have wonderful children for their efforts. And you can certainly be one of them!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I would add to this list, to find resources that can provide you with ideas and models to aspire to. When I first had to go it alone in a city where I didn't know anybody, I found a book by a single mom who valued it highly to earn a living as a writer to enable her to manage her time with her kids and work. Moreover, she had a vision to always make her home welcome for all of her kids' friends, so it was important to find. Home close to her children's school. I think identifying what's important to you will help mold these decisions to mark your parenting style and model a way of living in alignment with what matters to you.

Love this post❤️💪

It's hard when you first become a single parent, especially when the father is absent (and that goes both ways for single fathers to). It's always nice to have genuine words and wisdom when your life seems to be falling apart. Another word of advice is NEVER EVER speak badly about your ex to or in front of your child, even if they are not a good person. In due time, your child will figure things out for themselves and appreciate you more for allowing it.

I love this post! I have been a single mum for past two years. I have four lovely boys. I think if you believe in yourself and don't give up you can be a great mum. Kids are amazing they have made me who I am today. I agree with Chelsea let your child figure things out for themselves. Be a good good role model forgive and move on with your life. I know it is very difficult thing to do but trust me you will be the happiest person. Meet someone who appreciates you for who you are, be yourself always. I am a young mum I am studying to become a counsellor. I have achieved so much by being a single mum and I feel amazing. All I would say to everyone who is going through tough time at the moment ( these feelings are temporary please don't give up your kids need you to be a stronger person) Good time will come to you. Thank you I wish you all the best.
