7 of My Favorite Things about Being a Parent ...

While it is true that your life completely changes after you have a baby, the best things about being a parent are what make it all worthwhile (and, of course, that little adorable and sweet face makes it pretty awesome, too). While there are tons of things that I simply adore about being a mom, I want to share with you what I think are the best things about being a parent. So if you’re about to assume the role of a parent, get ready, because you’re in for the ride of your life.

Hugs and Kisses

Hands down, one of the very best things about being a parent is all of the hugs and kisses. I just can’t get enough of them! I turn into a big ball of mush every time my little guy runs up to me and gives me a big squeeze and a smooch. Gah! I’m squealing with delight just thinking about them!

I Love You

This could really go with hugs and kisses, but hearing “I love you” from my son is on a level all its own. The first time he said it, my heart melted into a pile of goo and it continues to do so each and every time he says it – and it will for the rest of my life.

Just Looking at Him is Amazing

There is something so magical about looking at that little being that I gave life to. At least once a day, I stop everything and give him a good once over and I am awed. He is this perfect little being that is so cute, so smart and so beautiful and I just love appreciating all of that.

4

The Laughs

There is nothing better than a giggle fit with a little one. When he starts laughing, the whole house starts laughing. I could be in the worst mood ever and when he starts to laugh, everything is suddenly right and I’m doubled over with laughter myself.

The Magic

There is nothing I love more than to be able to bring magic into my son’s life. I can’t explain the satisfaction I get when I see how delighted he is by an experience. Making magic come to life is something that is completely and totally awesome about being a parent. I know that those moments are ones that he will remember forever, and that I will, too.

Dance Parties

I’ve always been one to blast the music and break it down, but those dance parties are even more fun with my little guy. I just adore that he knows the words to my favorite artists (Tom Petty and The Beatles, particularly) and I love watching him shake his thing all around the living room. Cute can’t even begin to explain it.

Feeling like a Kid Again

It’s so easy to lose the magic in the world when you become an adult. Hectic schedules, work, taking care of a house and everything else on the plate can make it really easy to miss all of that magic. Well, since I’ve been a parent, I can see and appreciate that magic again, which is magical itself.

So, now that I’ve gushed over my own child, you can see that I really love being a parent. It really is the greatest joy in my life. What about you? What are your favorite things about being a parent?
