Now he has to go back to his mother and explain why there were ‘whales with polka dot tails’ and other weird sightings. Kids will love to point out the images that don’t seem to belong and sing along with this fun and energetic story.

Shake My Sillies out by Raffi

A favorite bedtime book at my house, this one is a sure bet when you have kids that have a little too much energy to lay down and go to sleep. As the campers and the animals in the woods get ready for bed they find they have to ‘shake the sillies out’. With fun moves and a cute story, kids will be ready to go to sleep by the end.

Although the original wording is a little old-fashioned, you can still get the idea and kids will soon learn to love the book and all of its words.

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Simms Taback If absurd is your kid’s favorite word then this book is for you. When an old lady swallows a fly she then has to swallow a spider to catch the fly, right? On and on it goes as she swallows animal after animal. The end will be as unexpected every time and your kids will ask to read it again and again.

As you can see, sing along books are a great way to turn story time into fun time. Get kids up and moving, practice their reading skills, and bond with them over some of your favorite songs.

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

All these books (and songs) are excellent! Raffi's music is delightful and I would suggest all of his music for toddlers and preschoolers.

These are all awesome, but I highly suggest the Pete the Cat books! My four year old loves them as do her friends!
